Retinal photography

Retinal Photography takes a high resolution digital photograph of the central part of the retina. Pictures can be analysed in great detail and this enables the accurate detection of small and possibly significant changes. This is especially important if you have diabetes, a family history of glaucoma, ageing changes at the back of the eye or other eye conditions.

Recent pictures can also be compared to pictures taken previously and this can pick up any subtle changes in the retina which may be indicative of eye disease.

The test is quick and painless. It involves sitting in front of a camera and looking at a set target. With a single click a digital photograph of the retina is taken.

For a minimal fee of £5.00 this service can be included in your standard eye examination (private or NHS).

When you book an eye examination you will be asked if you would like this additional service.
